Yesterday was rather horrid.
So, Friday night at the football game, we PWN'D. I mean, seriously. The marching band just owned the field. Our school is going through renovations, so it was the last game at that field. Our last performance there. We totally- oh my god. Words can't describe how freaking awesome it was. Our field commander was grinnnnnnin' so big. ;D She cried she was so happy. It was just absolutely amazing.
Yesterday was regionals. We got bumped up to class A this year. For those of you who don't know, Indiana is one of the top marching states, and has like, ten national champion marching bands in class A. Crazyness. FC was the smallest band in class A. We had a spifftastic show this year, and it was awesome. Marching at 190 bpm. Yeah. That fast. The show was called Move. Hell we moved. XD Anyway, at district a few weekends ago we did awesome. We really did. Even though we really kind of didn't have the best show, and the stadium was rather shitty. Yesterday there were 14 bands competing, and out of 14, we got dead last. The only band to get a silver. I don't even know what our score was.
It was horrible.
We stood there during the award ceremony, and when we got announced as a silver (we were 0.75 away from a gold), we knew we couldn't go on to semi-state. I cried. I cried like someone DIED. In a way, something did. Our show. I mean, next week we're gonna perform again, but I can't see how we're going to have the heart to perform well again. We've been practicing since June, and yesterday it all just was gone. But still... it was worth it.
Marching band means so much to me- believe it or not, I was shy. I was really shy before my freshman year (I iz sophomore nowz), but once I'd gone through that first year of marching band, I really opened up. You can't go through 130 degree temperatures and NOT open up. You see people at their absolute worst, and somehow, despite how awful we smell, we still manage to make friends and create such close bonds with each other. Seriously. The band room after a performance- worst smell ever, hands down. ;D So anyway, I can't believe how I've changed. I'm one of the most exuberant, giggly, open, ridiculous, insane people most people have ever met. And that's what marching band did to me.
At the sectionals before we performed, I told my section that, and the freshman were like, "What the fuck, Duffy, shy? XD Are you serious?" they couldn't picture it. It was rather funny. And of course, I cried as I told them how much it all meant to me.
Afterward, when we were going back to the buses to take our uniforms off, I was bawling my eyes out. It made me feel good though, that I got hugs from half the band. I cried all over everyone. It was kind of funny, in an odd sort of way. But all the freshmen and everyone were like, "Aww... don't cry Duffy! Not Duffy!" so, I guess I'm loved, even though I'm immature and can get really, really whiny. Little kid whiny. It's bad. Comes from being youngest in the family.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though we went through so much just to perform for regionals, but it was all worth it, even though things didn't go the way we wanted to. We were up against some really hard competition, and to come as far as we did was really something. Maybe how they know who we are... 'cause we did scream it.
BD: WHO ARE YOU?
Band: FC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (echo, echo, echo)
BD: WHAT'VE YOU GOT!?!
Band: PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (insert more echos here)
We make it echo.
BAND TEN-HUT
THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!! (echo, echo, echo, echo, echo, echo)
You get 150-some-odd-kids screaming, you get some fucking awesome echos.
Ceri, over and out.
